All About Our Emergency Dentistry Services

When it comes to your smile, it’s important to look and feel your best. With that being said, a dental emergency can be a tremendous source of stress! Unbearable pain, infection, and even a chipped tooth or missing crown can derail anyone’s day. If one of these instances happens to you, contact Cedarwood Dentistry’s emergency dentistry services without delay.

What is Considered a Dental Emergency?

Like a trip to the emergency room, emergency dental care can be expensive. As a result, it’s crucial to understand what constitutes an emergency so you can avoid a hefty fee if possible. Many are faced with the question — should I wait for an appointment or get emergency care? If you’re experiencing intolerable pain, that would be considered an emergency. However, if it’s pain that you could manage with an Advil, you could wait and schedule an appointment. Additionally, if you have a visible infection on one of your teeth that’s causing swelling or redness, we recommend emergency care. Depending on the severity, cosmetic issues also require emergency dental care. For example, a chipped front tooth or a crown that’s fallen off would require emergency care if you want it fixed as soon as possible.

Emergency Dentistry Services at Cedarwood

At Cedarwood Dentistry, we are proud to offer emergency dentistry and strive to be available when the need arises. However, there are a few considerations to keep in mind when contacting us for emergency care. First and foremost, you should call first thing in the morning on a workday for the best chance of being seen that day. While we try our best to see walk-ins, it is best to call beforehand. Additionally, it’s important to keep in mind that there will be a fee if you need attention after hours. We offer emergency care to both patients on file and new patients. Should the need for emergency dental care arise, call Cedarwood Dentistry’s emergency care hotline and leave a message with details. Some of the emergencies we’ve treated include:

  • Children’s trauma
  • Dental Infections
  • Avulsed Teeth* (An avulsed tooth occurs when a tooth or a piece of a tooth falls out)

*Tip: should this happen to you or a family member, be sure to keep the tooth in milk or saliva until you are able to receive dental care.

Tips for Parents:

If your child falls and chips or breaks their tooth, do not store the tooth or tooth fragment in water. Saliva and milk help to preserve it better! Once you’ve assessed the situation and preserved the tooth, make sure your child is comfortable. Give them ice and a lot of love! Next, call their dentist and see if you can get in immediately. If your child falls and their tooth punctures through the front of their lip, we might recommend going to the Emergency Room. A plastic surgeon would likely be able to address the damage to their lip.

At Cedarwood Dentistry, we strive to provide our patients with emergency care when they need it most. However, it’s important to try to address dental issues before they become an emergency! We understand that there are many unpredictable situations and are here to help when a dental emergency arises.

At Cedarwood Dentistry, we cultivate dental health through personalized care. We offer a variety of dental services, including family dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, and emergency care in Midlothian, Virginia. Whether you last visited the dentist six months or six years ago, we can help bring your smile to life. Schedule your dentist appointment today by calling 804-379-9375.
